The Planning Department was established in 1990 with a mission to make Hong Kong a better place to live and work in, striving to build Hong Kong into a liveable, competitive and sustainable “Asia World City”. The Department is responsible for the preparation of various types of town plans to guide the proper use and development of land. With increasing co-operation with the Mainland, the Department continues to keep close contact with neighbouring cities on cross-boundary planning and development matters. City Gallery, the first planning and infrastructure gallery in Hong Kong, is managed by the Planning Department. This unique exhibition venue showcases the major town planning proposals and infrastructure projects, as well as introducting future development of Hong Kong. City Gallery also acts as a platform for collaboration and exchange of planning ideas, and to engage the public in the planning process.
