Express Space

With the incredibly high density and massive traffic network, Hong Kong shows the ultimate kind of modern city life, characterized by huge pressure and rapid pace. Considering the scarcity of land and the high prices for renting spaces, we, the tower designers, are challenged with achieving maximum efficiency and meanwhile facilitating better life-style. The question comes to us: how could this new type of tower provide convenience in terms of easy access and relieve people’s stress by taking advantages of the latest technology? We are inspired by how greatly the Internet and logistics service are making life easier in all the aspects. We have never been able to reach so many goods and services before, even without leaving home. Just imagine. When working or living in a costly but cramped place, we often need some more space beyond our basic life style exigencies. Sometimes, it is a meeting room. Sometimes, it is a place for a party or a weekly fitness. And sometimes, we just want a quiet patio for contemplation. In these cases, can these extra spaces be delivered to us, as an express package? The most advanced Maglev elevator, recently put into production, is making this scheme possible. The elevator can move vertically and horizontally on the facade, delivering the “extra-space package” to anyplace on the surface of the tower. The dispatching center is located on the ground or underground level, and here the customized elevators with multiple functions are prepared. By docking these mobile elements to the window on the facade, the interior space of the tower is temporarily extended; and the user can easily access these spaces for his well-being needs, without paying for permanent property. This Express Space system brings Hong Kong’s existing conditions into full play and meets the most urgent demands of the people, and of a city with cramped and expensive land. Thus, it provides maximum efficiency in sharing and accessing the space, resulting in a better city for a better life.
