Rising through Hong Kong’s dynamic typology, the city has developed into a cascade of vertical monuments; a dense urban landscape of density within proportions. Eight Kwai Fong is a residential development that reflects the city’s urban construct, creating a new approach to Hong Kong’s apartment lifestyle by redefining and maximizing our living spaces. The building responds to “The Artisanal Movement”, a journey of imagination and bespoke craftsmanship, a resonated ideology in living spaces within our built environment. The concept of Eight Kwai Fong is to connect the urban fabric with surrounding parks, integrating the building into its lush green environment. The entrance is defined by a double volume space inspired by “cut & slide” boxes, creating a series of freespaces along the building's horizontal & vertical axis. The building mass is represented with stacked units and each unit is defined with its own distinctive feature and openable in the form of drawers. These “reveals” direct the viewer to our vision; utilising features such as balconies and green spaces to create interactive elements that immerse with the surrounding typology. Our design aims to bring the principles of verticality in an interactive nature, using kinetic motion to address the playfulness and synergy of our vertical fabric.
